Are you constantly playing catch-up?

April 30, 2012 – Are you constantly playing catch-up? In your life? In your work? Is it forcing you in some instances to simply do what will get you by? Are things you really want to be doing getting put off as fires must be put out, immediate obligations must be met, and frustration continues to mount? Nothing is more depleting and defeating than feeling like you will never see the light at the end of that ever-flowing funnel of to-do’s. Have you considered that perhaps you are creating and enabling this “hamster on the spinning wheel" existence?

Take an MM&I Moment for an honest and reflective look at everything you currently have on your plate. Which responsibilities or tasks are you truly the best person to be doing? Which ones could be handed off to someone else? Which obligations did you passionately accept, and which ones were imposed upon you and you couldn’t say no? Which items on your list are urgent and necessary versus necessary but don’t have to be done right this minute? Which things are you doing that really aren’t necessary or urgent, and yet you continue to put them at the top of your list? Which items on your list have you put off, and yet could bring you some joy and re-energize you to complete other tasks? Which things are you putting off due to perceived stress that if handled, would bring such relief that you would get more done simply because you are no longer spending valuable time worrying about it? I could go on and on here, but you get the idea. Give yourself permission to do what really and honestly matters, and you will be amazed at how much you begin to get done, how you feel as though you are getting ahead of it all, and how satisfying it is along the way.
