January 14 – Are you measuring effectively? Do you set goals yet have no way of knowing whether progress is being made? Are your goals based on a target dataset, or is your target dataset the goal? What happens if you achieve that dataset? Is there no opportunity for next level achievement or is it merely checked off of your list as done? Does what you are measuring matter, and are you measuring the right metrics to achieve your goals?
While what is measured gets accomplished, sometimes the wrong things are being measured that could be hindering progress versus creating momentum. Making sure that whatever you are measuring is insightful and providing clarity or understanding is key. Measure to make momentum-building decisions. Measure to exceed your expectations.
Take an MM&I Moment to awaken to how to measure more effectively. What are your current key performance indicators (KPIs) that you are measuring against? What are the goals you are striving to achieve that your KPIs are based upon? What data so you need to be tracking? What information are you currently tracking that isn’t really giving you any insight? What are you currently tracking that is just busywork and not creating clarity? Building momentum takes decisiveness that is empowered by facts, not fiction. Be sure what you are measuring gives you the clarity and confidence to be decisive!
Wide Awake Quote of the Week
“Measurement is only useful when it guides you and adds context to a larger picture, not when it consumes you. Each number is simply one piece of feedback in the overall system.” – James Clear
