Have you subconsciously decided?

November 19 – Have you subconsciously decided? Have you ever caught yourself shutting down an idea almost as quickly as it was presented? Or dismissing an opportunity before you’ve even explored what it might mean for you?  Have you unintentionally shut yourself off to additional options or possibilities because of limiting beliefs or preconceived notions? We dismiss ideas not because they lack merit, but because they challenge the beliefs we’ve never stopped to question. We “decide” long before we realize we’ve decided. We miss opportunities not because they’re wrong for us, but because they’re unfamiliar to us.

Our subconscious mind operates like an automatic pilot, programmed by past experiences, lingering fears, unresolved disappointments, and deeply held beliefs about what is safe, possible, or appropriate. We may assume our reactions are instinctive and therefore, our conscious decisions are more thoughtful, rational, and intentional. But often, they are anything but. The danger isn’t the subconscious itself. You simply need to be aware of its influence.

Take an MM&I Moment  to awaken to how your subconscious mind may be hindering more than helping. Think of a recent situation that you immediately dismissed an idea or proposed option. Why did you react that way? What belief may have been triggered? What past experience waved a red flag before you even explored how this may be different? Was it merely a reflex of “already tried that or done that,” or a real assessment?  Now ask yourself, what could this become if I let it? If someone has proposed options, what if instead you ask yourself what if this is the perspective I’ve been needing? Is there a solution you are overlooking because it is unfamiliar? What might shift if you gave yourself permission to pause, question, and choose with intention?  Comfort masquerades as confidence. Familiarity disguises itself as wisdom. And assumptions quietly shape our direction without ever asking for permission. Instead of “No,” you give yourself room to explore “Maybe.” Choose clarity over assumptions, growth over comfort, and possibility over limitation.
