Surrounded by negativity?

Apr 03  – Surrounded by negativity? Does it feel no matter where you turn or what you are exposed to, negativity seems to be dominating your sphere? You read the latest news. Negativity. You begin working on a project. Problems left and right. You reach out to a client. Complaints. You are hanging out with friends, family, or coworkers. The discussion seems focused on everything that is going wrong. Traffic seems more frustrating. Everything seems to be taking longer than you expected. They can’t even get your coffee order right!

Negativity has a way of demanding attention, however, do you really need to give it the attention it is seeking? When negativity invites itself in, it’s up to you to turn it away. When negativity is the topic of conversation, it’s up to you to shift the focus. When negative things seem to be your primary focus, it’s time for you to refocus your attention inward and outward. Once you recognize negativity’s power to distract you, positivity can immediately focus and empower you.

Take an MM&I Moment to awaken to how you are allowing negativity to consume you. Note all the things that have been weighing you down negatively. I want you to physically list them on the left side of a piece of paper. What has been distracting you? What have you heard? What have you witnessed? What have you experienced? What have you tolerated? What have you revisited time and time again because it was so negatively frustrating? Now draw a line to divide that piece of paper. With each item on the left side, strike through it to symbolize it has no more power over you. Then across from it on the right side, write three positive things that comes to mind. It doesn’t matter whether they are related or not. Just write what comes to mind. After you have completed this exercise, fold the paper in half, tear off and throw away the left half, and post the trios of positive statements you made so you can see them and be reminded of all you have to appreciate and be grateful for. Then allow these positive notations to inspire and empower your actions moving forward. Negativity is a noose holding you back causing distraction, doubt, and dire thinking. Positivity ignites intuition, packed with inspiration, ideas and insightful thinking.
