Is it really others holding you back?

Aug 6, 2012 – Is it really others holding you back? Are the actions of others affecting or hindering your ability to move forward with what you are trying to do? Is this someone you rely on and must count on or someone totally out of your control, but still having an impact and influence on what you can and cannot do?  The more important question is, are you deferring blame and responsibility or are you really dealing with an obstacle? Are these “others” a convenient excuse, or are they really hindering your ability to move forward?  Too often our perception of what is holding us back is what is really holding us back. Instead of focusing on what others are doing to you, focus on what you can do in spite of what others are doing.

Take an MM&I Moment to better understand what may really be going on. Note specifically how someone is hindering or limiting your ability to move forward.  What did they do or not do that has made you question their abilities, motives or support?  What is within their control versus your control?  Based on what is in your control, what steps can you take to move things forward with or without them?  Is there something you can do to help them better support or assist you? There is always something that can be done. Understanding what is really happening and then taking action based on reality versus perception and assumptions will help you get back on track and focused on getting things moving forward again.
