Are you existing in autopilot?

July 9, 2012 - Are you existing in autopilot? Is your life or work feeling so routine that you just go through the motions? Are you feeling bored or unchallenged? How set in your ways are you? Do you have a routine that simply is the way you do things in the morning … at work … to get ready … preparing for the evening, in doing your job? While procedures, processes and systems are important to productivity and efficiency, routines that become a little too routine can actually stifle resourcefulness, ingenuity, enthusiasm and your ability to be alert to opportunities.  If your routines are not moving your forward towards where you want to be, it is time to change your routine.

Take an MM&I Moment to list five things you could do differently or approach in a different way. List five things you would like to try to do or even thought about doing but then set the thought aside to get back to your “routine.”  Now choose one thing you will do differently from your current routine and choose one thing to try and schedule it into your calendar.  Continue to do this on a weekly basis and you will find work and life interesting and satisfying again, and most important, moving forward again too. Best of all, you will also discover abilities or opportunities you may have missed or not seen before.

Synergized Quote of the Week

“The ear tends to be lazy, craves the familiar, and is shocked by the unexpected. The eye, on the other hand, tends to be impatient, craves the novel and is bored by repetition.” – W. H. Auden
